Senior officials of Secretariat of Islamic Organization for Food Security held a meeting with Ambassador of Kuwait to Kazakhstan Mr. Tareq Abdullah Alfaraj within the framework of acquaintances with heads of diplomatic missions from IOFS member countries.
Director General briefed about history of IOFS and institutional work undertaken after Second General Assembly held in august in Jeddah. Director General also informed about IOFS initiatives such as IT Database, Grain Fund, and IFPA. Mr. Alfaraj expressed his interest and offered to assist in further development of IOFS; he also suggested Kazakhstan to visit Kuwait in January 2020 within Kazakhstani-Kuwaiti inter-governmental commission.
During discussions, Mr. Alfaraj also expressed interest in potential of Kazakhstan to become an agricultural hub for Islamic world, and suggested to collaborate closely with investors from MENA, who could be interested in humanitarian projects. For example, Kuwaiti Fund had much experience in enhancement of food security and implementation of agricultural projects in Africa and Asia.
Mr. Alfaraj told he had been following activities of IOFS during all of his 5 years in Kazakhstan. Amb. Hameed spoke about such events as Forum of strategic commodities, an agricultural trade exhibition of IOFS member countries planned to be held next year, and recent participation of IOFS officials in “KazAgro” exhibition and international “KazOil” conference in Nur-Sultan.
Overall, IOFS officials emphasized Kuwait’s role in further development of sustainable food security in OIC countries. The Ambassador of Kuwait offered his help in enhancing collaboration in agricultural field between Kuwait and Kazakhstan, and Secretariat of IOFS.
