The Peninsula, Qatari media platform in their article wrote about increase in vegetable production in the latest three years attaining 100 per cent growth according to the Director of the Department of Agricultural Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality, Youssef Al Khulaifi. Qatari vegetable production raised by more than 100 thousand tonnes in 2021 comparing to 55 thousand in 2017 with 46 per cent growth in 2022. Ministry also stated that local farmers utilize advanced farming systems, that comprises greenhouses, refrigerated houses, modern hydroponics system, and special places for drying dates and improving product quality.
Global food security index depicts Qatari favorable food sector position, on top of that the country ranked first in this sector among other Arab countries. The main reason of these achievements are sound agricultural policies based on expanding the circle of plant and animal agricultural products that increase its local production. Another prominent achievement of the Qatari Agri sector is a special state control over quality and safety of food products.
The ministry signed a contract with Mahaseel company affiliated with Hassad food company with aim to provide farmers with agricultural services and operations, seeds, fertilizers, pesticides.
