IOFS Director General visits Egyptian National Food Safety Authority and Regional office of the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO)
Cairo August first, His Excellency Yerlan A. Baidaulet the Director General of the Islamic Organisation for Food Security visited the Egyptian National Food Authority and met with Prof. Hussein Mansour, Chairman. In the beginning of the meeting, IOFS Director General gave brief presentation of the 16 programs with special focus on Food safety and development of Halal food programs. The From Gene to Fork modality that IOFS is establishing was discussed.
Prof. Mansour from his side introduced the Egyptian law on food safety and the practical steps that taken to ensure safe food production. Food nutrition as an important domain in food security and stressed on the strategy to build both availability and accessibility of food in all food value chains.
In the end of the meeting, both parties agreed to share knowledge and experience with member countries through training programs.
His Excellency Director General of the IOFS visited the FAO Regional office in Cairo that is responsible to coordinate with IOFS and its member countries located in NENA (Near East and North Africa) region. Mr. Kayan Jaff, Senior policy advisor received the IOFS delegation and HE Abdelhakeem Alwaer FAO Assistant Director General attended via Zoom. Both parties discussed the MOU between the two organisations along with the Action plan. FAO ADG invited IOFS DG to participate in the upcoming regional meetings. FAO and IOFS agree to continue the cooperation through IOFS program of development of strategic commodities and to support the next OIC Forum on strategic commodities that IOFS will conduct next November. FAO has also offered to coordinate in performing joint studies on the relevant IOFS programs.
