In accordance with the instructions of Mr. Y.A. Baidaulet, Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security and Mr. David Beasley, Executive Director of the World Food Program (WFP) in October 7, 2020, a video meeting between representatives of the IOFS and WFP was held, during which the parties discussed in detail the most of aspects of bilateral cooperation between the above-mentioned international organizations.
The parties paid special attention to the fact that the solution of the burning problems of food security in the world, as well as and in view of remaining COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, today is depended significantly from the close coordination and cooperation of the world's largest specialized organizations such as the WFP and IOFS. In this regard, the parties expressed the mutual interest in signing the "Partnership Agreement between the IOFS and WFP" at the earliest date, which would reflect aspects of cooperation and opportunities available to the parties, including reserves of strategic goods and food, logistic infrastructure, technical and financial resources and etc.
The WFP representatives highly appreciated the portfolio of strategic programs and projects developed by IOFS Secretariat (with the participation of member countries), such as the Grain Fund, the International Islamic Food Industry Association, the humanitarian food programs:Â Humanitarian Flour, the Qurbani meat, the IOFS Food Balance Database and others. The WFP representatives have expressed interest in establishing the close cooperation in these areas. The IOFS and WFP also agreed to continue consultations in all issues of mutual interest.
From the IOFS Secretariat at the meeting took part: Mr. I. Abdelhamid, Dr., Director of the Program Office, Mr. B. Omarov, Director of the Office for External Relations, Mr. Y. Yelubaiuly, Manager of the Office for External Relations. The WFP was represented by Mr. Magid Yahiya, Director of the WFP Dubai Office, WFP Representative to the Gulf Countries Council (GCC) and Ms. Nehal Higazi, External Partnerships Manager of the WFP Office in Dubai.
