Roundtable on Food Security Education
27 October 2023

We are thrilled to invite you to the "Roundtable on Food Security Education," organized by the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), in conjunction with the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM).

Background:
In an era of evolving regional trends, there is an urgent need for an innovative education program designed to equip the next generation of experts in Food Security. This program will instill modern approaches to protect and enhance rural livelihoods, promote equity, and improve social well-being. It will focus on optimizing resource efficiency critical to sustainable agriculture and nurturing experts capable of building robust business models along the food supply chain, leveraging urban environments for local food production and distribution, and evaluating governance mechanisms for sustainable food production.

The IOFS Secretariat is committed to actively collaborating with higher education institutions to shape the framework of this Food Security Education program. Furthermore, the IOFS will embark on piloting this program at one of the universities and share this valuable experience with member states and international organizations to foster similar initiatives in universities, schools, and other institutions.

About RUFORUM:
RUFORUM, a consortium of over 160 African universities, plays a pivotal role in strengthening university capacities to foster innovations that respond to the needs of small-holder farmers. RUFORUM emphasizes high-quality researcher training, output of impact-oriented research, and the maintenance of collaborative relationships among researchers, farmers, national agricultural research institutions, and governments.
