Islamic Republic News Agency: FAO to discuss issue of Iran becoming hub for regional food security
06 June 2024

Iran's Deputy Agriculture Minister, Hooshang Mohammadi, revealed plans during the 34th Executive Committee and 24th Governing Council meeting in Thailand to position Iran as a central figure in food security for its regional counterparts. Mohammadi held discussions with the FAO's deputy secretary-general and the director-general of the Asia-Pacific Integrated Rural Development Center (CIRDAP), proposing Iran's inclusion in FAO's food security agenda. Iran aims to leverage its knowledge-based food security document to attract investment and technical assistance from the UN agency, facilitating the exchange of expertise and policies on rural development. CIRDAP, headquartered in Bangladesh, serves as an intergovernmental organization focused on rural development and poverty alleviation across Asia and the Pacific, with member states including Iran and several others in the region.
