IOFS participates in Decadal Workshop on Enhancing Food Security in Arab Countries Project

Tunis, Republic of Tunisia- On 01 December, 2023, the delegation of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) , led  by the Director of Programs and Projects Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali , participated at the Decadal workshop on Enhancing Food Security in Arab Countries Project organized by the ICARDA; International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas in Tunis, Republic of Tunisia.

The two days (November 30 - December 1, 2023) workshop aimed to review major achievements in each country; outcomes of the capacity development, adoption and impact assessment, food losses and return on investment. Strategic partners gathered from Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Morocco, Palestine, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Yemen. 

To note, ICARDA has been implementing Enhancing Food Security in Arab Countries project in three phases in partnership with 10 Arab countries. The different phases of the project were supported by Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD), the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).

As a specialized institution of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation ( OIC ) dedicated to addressing the issue of food security, the IOFS took an active role. Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar presented the vision and mission of the IOFS, and elaborated on possible areas of cooperation in the realm of food security.  The participation of the IOFS serves as a testament to promoting a unified food security strategy in the OIC by promoting capacity building and sustainable development.
