IOFS Drives Cassava Innovation to New Heights in Nigeria

Abuja, Nigeria, 29 November, 2023 – The Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) successfully concluded the Regional Workshop "Cassava Next Generation Breeding in Nigeria". Mr. Abubakar Ahmad, Cassava Program Consultant at the Programs and Projects Department, represented Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali , the Director of Programs and Projects, in presiding over the concluding sessions of this transformative event held in Abuja, Republic of Nigeria.

This final session served as a platform to extend heartfelt appreciation to the host country and reinforce IOFS's commitments in close collaboration with the Nigerian government and other West African countries within the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation ( OIC ) geography. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates to experts and participants, recognizing their invaluable expertise and active engagement throughout the workshop.

Prof. Garba Hamidu Sharubutu, the Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), representing the country, expressed enthusiasm for IOFS's initiatives, particularly in the cassava value chain. He underscored the significance of Cassava Next Generation Breeding in introducing new planting materials that will not only enhance cassava production in the region but also have a far-reaching impact beyond.

In a bid for continuous improvement, Mr. Abubakar Ahmad, the IOFS Cassava Program Consultant, conducted a pilot survey among participants during the closing session. This initiative aimed to evaluate the content of the event and gather feedback for consideration in shaping future activities conducted by IOFS.

The Regional Workshop's successful conclusion marks a significant stride in IOFS's mission to drive innovation and enhance the cassava value chain, contributing to the overall goal of sustainable food security in the OIC Member States.
