EAEU and Iran agreed to cooperate on Eurasian Agroexpress project
15 March 2024

The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) recently convened a meeting with representatives from Iran to discuss the advancement of the Eurasian Agroexpress project, a significant initiative stemming from negotiations for a full-scale free trade area between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Iran.

Andrey Slepnev, the EEC Minister responsible for Trade, highlighted the practical implementation of agreements reached between the two parties, particularly focusing on facilitating the supply of EAEU products to Iran and streamlining the delivery of Iranian fruits and vegetables to EAEU member countries. The utilization of the Eurasian Agroexpress is expected to expedite the transportation process, enhance product quality, and reduce the involvement of intermediaries.

Alireza Peyman-Pak, First Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jihad of Iran, expressed openness to collaboration, proposing the involvement of a prominent Iranian holding company to facilitate bilateral trade. Following the meeting, both sides committed to further discussions, delegating the specifics of cooperation to the Eurasian Agroexpress project directorate and the Iranian company.

However, Slepnev acknowledged the need to address additional considerations such as financial settlements, veterinary and phytosanitary regulations, and transit issues en route to Persian Gulf nations and India, underscoring the multifaceted nature of the collaboration.
