IOFS Director General, Prof. Yerlan A. Baidaulet and IOFS Team held a meeting with the delegation of the Seifullin Kazakh Agro Technical University (KATU) headed by Professor, Member of Kazakhstan’s National Academy of Sciences Kanat Tireuov. As a result of the meeting, both sides agreed to sign an MoU on Jan. 18 with an Action Plan for joint activities for 2023 and beyond.

The meeting than began with the IOFS congratulating Dr. Tireuov on his new position as Chairman of the Board of KATU and wished him success and prosperity at this new stage of his professional career.

The IOFS noted that within the framework of the Kazakhstan-Afghanistan Agreement, since 2010, more than 1000 Afghan students have been studying at the universities of Kazakhstan. IOFS highlighted that the organization holds the global mandate established by the 17th Extraordinary CFM on the Humanitarian Situation in Afghanistan, and one of the priority directions includes the education of Afghan students. IOFS suggested the possibility of accepting Afghan students in KATU, given the difficult situation in Afghanistan, especially for the women of Afghanistan. 

The IOFS proposed establishing cooperation between KATU and universities of OIC countries with the objective of strengthening education on Food Security (RUFORUM, American University in Beirut, HBKU Qatar, Pakistan, UAE). The IOFS would act as a bridge between Kazakhstani universities and OIC universities in sharing best practices, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and developing a shared syllabus.

The Organization also presented a brief explanation on a summer school initiative, highlighting the importance of the Public Administration in the field of food security, and proposed basing the Summer School in KATU.

Dr. Tireuov concluded the meeting by expressing support for all the programs and projects of IOFS. Both sides stressed that they share a common goal of not merely discussing ideas, but ensuring the effective implementation of their plans. KATU is determined to contribute to the cause of IOFS and enhance cooperation.  With the support of IOFS, KATU is confident that it can  become a leading university on a global level.

Seifullin KATU is among 10 universities in the country that are carrying out personnel training for projects within the state program of industrial and innovative development of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2015-2019. Priority sectors for KATU include "Agricultural mechanical engineering" and "Production of food products". KATU offers nine major programs and 95 projects.

According to QS World University Rankings 2014/15 KATU entered the top of 701+ best universities. The Director General of IOFS Prof. Yerlan A. Baidaulet wished KATU to reach their goal of entering the top 500 Universities in the next few years.
