On the 10th of April 2023 an online bilateral meeting was held between the Islamic Organization for Food Security and the Republic of the Sudan. The IOFS Secretariat and the International IFPA was led by the Director General of IOFS and Chairman of IFPA, H.E. Prof. Yerlan Baidaulet. The Sudanese delegation was represented by H.E Ms. Abla Malik Osman, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and H.E Prof. Mamoun Dou-Albait, Deputy Minister of Water Resources Irrigation and Electricity of the Republic of Sudan.
The Director General of IOFS started the meeting with a summary of his successful business trip to Sudan and thanked the Sudanese government for facilitating the organization of the productive and fruitful visit. H.E. Prof. Yerlan A. Baidaulet then elaborated on the topic of how the IOFS could support Sudan develop into a global food basket.
The Sudanese delegation, in turn, expressed genuine interest in the programs and projects of the IOFS, particularly in Food Security Governance, Sheep Farming Development, and Capacity Building. The parties also discussed prospects of B2B collaboration with the subsidiary of IOFS, International IFPA.
The esteemed officials from Sudan also commended the efforts of the IOFS in the humanitarian field, especially in the implementation of the Afghanistan Food Security Program. This comes in light of the news on the launch of the first IOFS Humanitarian Convoy, to be delivered by the end of the Holy Days of Ramadan, to the population in dire need in Afghanistan.
Both sides concluded the meeting by expressing their joint desire for strengthening cooperation, and agreed that the meeting would provide a significant impetus to the development of bilateral relations between the IOFS and the Republic of Sudan.
