Islamic Organisation for Food security has addressed an urgent appeal to all its member states to support the ‘COVID-19 Emergency and Recovery Response Plan’ elaborated by the Ministry of Agriculture & Irrigation of Somalia. The plan seeks to mitigate risks in food security and reduce the negative impact caused by pandemic, taking into consideration the IOFS strategy outlined in the Memorandum ‘Addressing Food Security Crisis in the Wake of COVID-19 Pandemic: Response of IOFS’.
The IOFS mandate authorises the organisation to provide emergency and humanitarian assistance, mobilise and manage financial resources to promote agricultural development and food security in member states. In addition to its urgent appeal to member states, IOFS has also addressed other relevant regional and international institutions and multilateral organisations for this purpose.
