IOFS and UN Technology Bank consider cooperation
20 March 2023

The IOFS team held an online meeting with representatives of the United Nations Technology Bank for Least Developed Countries on Mar. 20 to discuss areas of possible cooperation.

The UN Technology Bank was established with the goal of maximizing the contribution of science, technology, and innovation to sustainable development in the world's least developed nations. Headquartered in Gebze, Turkiye, the organization actively collaborates with local, regional, and global partners to implement its programs and initiatives that improve the capacity for science, technology, and innovation in least-developed countries. The UNTB works with 46 countries, 20 of which intersect with the IOFS Member States list.

The UNTB sees a possible area for cooperation in its post-Harvest project in the Gambia, which experiences significant losses in cashew nuts production due to the use of archaic tech. The IOFS emphasized that technology transfer is one of its main goals and will be glad to consider ways to work jointly on this project, as well as cooperate in the field of capacity building. The UNTB invited the IOFS Director General, HE Yerlan Baidaulet, to visit their HQ for a formal meeting and continue discussions on cooperation.
