The UAE aims to achieve 50% of its basic food requirements from local farms and producers by the end of this year and plans to reach 100% by 2030. Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, the UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, made this announcement during the 1st National Dialogue for Food Security. The initiative seeks to boost local farm production and marketing effectiveness to enhance the country's food security.

Recognizing food security as a crucial national issue, the UAE is taking strategic steps to promote self-sufficiency in food production. The country has faced challenges due to disruptions in the global food supply chain from conflicts and the pandemic. To ensure sustainability, the UAE has deployed advanced technology and launched initiatives like 'Nemah' to reduce food loss and waste.

The UAE has achieved significant progress towards food security, evident from its first successful harvest of protein-enriched wheat. With a focus on supporting local farmers and fostering agri-preneurs, the UAE is committed to becoming a leader in agricultural self-sufficiency. As the host nation for COP28 in 2023, the UAE is determined to expedite efforts in achieving the National Food Security Strategy 2051's objectives through innovative partnerships and solutions.
