The newly signed project, “Strengthening Iran’s Access to GCF with National Ownership, Knowledge-Based Policies, and Sound Technologies,” marks a significant advancement in aligning Iran's national strategies with climate action and promoting sustainable development. As Iran confronts severe climate challenges, including escalating droughts and catastrophic floods that impact ecosystems, biodiversity, and the economy, the National Strategic Action Plan on Climate Change 2017 provides a roadmap for climate adaptation and mitigation, contingent upon obtaining financial and technical support from the UNFCCC. The project, officially launched on 19 August with an inception workshop, involves key stakeholders from government, the private sector, and NGOs. It aims to enhance climate resilience by improving coordination with the Green Climate Fund (GCF), establishing direct access to GCF resources, and integrating climate considerations into development planning. Expected outcomes include strengthened national coordination mechanisms, a strategy for GCF direct access, an updated GCF Country Programme, and the creation of a National Climate Change Knowledge Hub (NCCKH) to disseminate knowledge and raise public awareness, ultimately contributing to national resilience and sustainable development.
