Amman, Jordan, 9 October 2024 - Ambassador Khusrav Noziri, Assistant Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), presented the organization’s vision regarding the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) nexus and its implications for water use in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation ( OIC ) member countries. At the outset of his presentation, Ambassador Noziri extended warm regards from H.E. Ambassador Berik Aryn, Director General of the IOFS, to the organizers and participants of the assembly.
Ambassador Noziri emphasized that the WEFE nexus is not merely a theoretical concept; it represents a practical framework for tackling our most pressing challenges. By recognizing the intricate connections between water, energy, food, and ecosystems, we can formulate sustainable and effective solutions. The IOFS remains committed to strengthening its partnership with INWRDAM and other stakeholders to develop innovative strategies that enhance resilience and optimize resource management.
The collaboration between the IOFS and INWRDAM has been reinforced through joint efforts during the Cairo Water Week in both 2022 and 2023. These events underscored our shared commitment to integrated water management and the significance of partnerships in achieving meaningful outcomes. The Memorandum of Understanding signed in March 2023 lays a robust foundation for future collaboration in promoting best practices for water management across OIC member countries.
Ambassador Noziri expressed the IOFS’s eagerness to continue its work with INWRDAM on the implementation of the Integrated Water Resources Management Plan (IWRMP) in Niger. This plan is crucial to our initiatives supporting sustainable water management, particularly in regions facing water scarcity and the impacts of climate change.
