National News: Abu Dhabi launches agriculture centre to boost food and water security
12 June 2024

Abu Dhabi is set to establish the AgriFood Growth and Water Abundance (Agwa) Cluster, approved by Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, aiming to bolster food and water security locally and globally while generating thousands of new jobs. Led by the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, Agwa will serve as a platform to support local suppliers and exporters, enhance sustainable production, and meet rising international demand. By 2045, it's projected to contribute significantly to the Abu Dhabi economy, creating over 60,000 jobs and attracting substantial investments. With agriculture consuming a significant portion of freshwater globally, Agwa seeks to accelerate innovations in advanced technologies to address water and food security challenges, aligning with the UAE's food security strategy. This initiative underscores Abu Dhabi's commitment to embracing high-tech solutions and fostering partnerships to thrive in its desert climate and meet future agricultural needs.
