At the instruction of Kazakhstan's President, the Water Resources and Irrigation Ministry has established the National Hydrogeological Service, as reported by Kazinform News Agency. The President emphasized the critical importance of water resources in Kazakhstan, equating them with oil, gas, and metals. The newly founded National Hydrogeological Service will be tasked with overseeing state policies related to underground water management, exploration, and monitoring, focusing on the rational use of groundwater. Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Nurzhan Nurzhigitov highlighted that Kazakhstan's groundwater resources are estimated at 40 cubic kilometers, with 15 cubic kilometers readily available for use, yet currently, only 7-10% of these resources are utilized. The Ministry aims to enhance the use of these resources to support drinking water supplies, farmland irrigation, and grassland farming. The President's initiative underscores the strategic importance of effective water resources management for Kazakhstan's sustainable development, aligning with both global environmental standards and national needs.
