Almaty, Kazakhstan – 21 November 2024 – The Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) participated in the Sustainable Future 2024: Biotechnology, Ecology, Energy conference held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) on November 20-21, 2024. The event, marking KazNU’s 90th anniversary, brought together experts and policymakers to discuss sustainability in biotechnology, ecology, and energy, all critical to food security.
IOFS was represented by Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali, Director of Programs, who delivered a presentation on Hybrid Wheat for Food Security, highlighting innovative agricultural solutions to enhance food security, particularly in drought-prone areas. The conference featured over 100 delegates from Kazakhstan, China, Germany, India, and Uzbekistan, discussing key advancements in sustainability and technology.
In addition to the conference, the IOFS delegation visited several research labs at KazNU, including those focused on environmental sustainability and remote sensing technologies. These visits showcased the university’s leadership in cutting-edge research and international collaboration.
Discussions also focused on the establishment of the IOFS International Center of Science, Innovation, and Commercialization for Food Security at KazNU. A concept note for the center will soon be shared with IOFS, and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is set to be signed in December 2024 to formalize the partnership.
