Gov.kz/MoA: Documents worth $2 billion in investment and trade signed following the visit of the Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan to Turkey
14 August 2024

During a working visit, the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Aidarbek Saparov spoke at the Turkish Chamber of Commerce and Industry, highlighting the opportunities for expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in agriculture between Kazakhstan and Turkey. The Minister noted that in recent years, trade figures between the two countries have shown steady growth. By the end of 2023, the turnover of agricultural products had increased by 13%, reaching $325 million USD. Kazakhstan traditionally exports lentils, cotton fiber, grains, legumes, and gluten to Turkey. However, the market for livestock products had been closed due to animal disease restrictions that had been in place for about 20 years. In June 2024, these restrictions were lifted, and on August 12, a number of Kazakh companies involved in meat production, fattening, and processing are engaging in negotiations with Turkish businesses. Supplies will be possible after passing an inspection by Turkey's veterinary service. At the same time, Turkey exports fruits, nuts, chocolate, confectionery, seedlings, and incubated eggs to Kazakhstan. Saparov emphasized that Turkey, with its advanced agricultural processing technologies, is an important partner for Kazakhstan, particularly in priority areas such as dairy processing and leather production. He also noted the active development of investment cooperation: with Turkish investors, 6 projects worth $53 million USD have already been implemented in Kazakhstan in the areas of confectionery production, agricultural crops, cotton oil, and legume processing. Plans include the implementation of another 10 investment projects worth $553 million USD, including the construction of a greenhouse complex, a factory for deep processing of wheat and peas, a vegetable storage facility, gelatin production, and processing of legumes and oilseeds. At the end of the visit, documents totaling $2 billion USD and trade contracts for meat supply worth $80 million USD were signed at the Chamber of Commerce in Ankara, covering cooperation in building vegetable storage facilities, service enterprises for agriculture, and processing plants, as well as livestock product supplies to Turkey.
