Avinews: FAO: Global meat production to grow in 2024, led by poultry
25 June 2024

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has released its annual report for 2024 on global meat production trends, revealing a mixed landscape across different sectors. Overall, global animal protein production is projected to reach 371 million tons, with notable increases in poultry production by 0.8% to 146 million tons, driven by strong consumer demand despite global inflation. Beef production is set to rise modestly by 0.7%, benefiting from sufficient cattle availability for processing, albeit with economic challenges due to high prices. Conversely, global pork production is expected to decline by 0.9%, largely influenced by China's efforts to stabilize internal prices amid oversupply. These dynamics underscore the complex and varied challenges facing the meat industry worldwide, shaping strategies for producers, policymakers, and consumers alike.
