Anadolu Agency: 96% of Gazans face extreme levels of hunger: Report
27 June 2024

The latest Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report paints a dire picture of food insecurity in Gaza, revealing that 96% of the population faces extreme hunger, with nearly half a million people experiencing catastrophic food insecurity. This assessment covers the period from May 1 to June 15, highlighting that over 2.13 million people in Gaza are in IPC Phase 3 or above (crisis or worse). Ongoing conflict and restricted humanitarian access exacerbate the situation, with renewed hostilities and displacement further hindering aid efforts. The report underscores a persistent risk of famine across the entire Gaza Strip amid a backdrop of extensive destruction and a severe blockade limiting access to essential resources like food, water, and medicine.
