UAE’s 1 Billion Meals campaign will kick off long term food project partnerships to ensure sustainable food solutions and empower vulnerable groups, Emirati state official stated to the Gulf News. The region’s major food donation initiative is planned to extend beyond Ramadan month.
The 1 Billion Meals campaign can embrace number of actors from governments, private sector and entrepreneurs, humanitarian and public figures to contribute to the initiative to support disadvantaged people in need. This project was a continuation of 10 Million Meals and 100 Million Meals campaigns initiated by Sheikh Mohammed in 2020 and 2021.
The project was initially targeted to cover 20 countries, but via strategic connections campaign reached 47 countries, and funds were doubled, distributed meals increased from 100 million to 220 million. Meal cost were decreased significantly through distributing dry food packages to substitute more cost-based cooked meals. Current campaign is implementing with long-term approach, commenced in Ramadan it will extend beyond Ramadan.
