On 25 November, a first session of Regional Meeting of Experts on Food Security in Sahel and West Africa organized by CILSS started in Niamey, Niger.
The main goal of the meeting was to examine forecast indicators of agricultural production and, grain and food balance (ex-post and forecast) in countries of Sahel and West Africa. The session was opened by the Minister of Agriculture and Farming of Niger Mr. Albadé Abouba. Representatives of agricultural statistical bodies and early warning systems of member countries of CILSS, WAMEU and ECOWAS, representatives of sub-regional and international institutions (ECOWAS, WAMEU, SWAC / OECD), of regional informational bodies on food security (CILSS, ACMAD, FAO, FEWS NET), representatives of SANAD projects, development partners (European Union, US AID, MAE / France), agencies of humanitarian help (OCHA, ECHO, US AID / FFP, WFP), non-governmental institutions (Oxfam GB, CRS, Save the Children, ACF, ect), as well as farmers and social organizations (ROPPA, RBM, RESIMAO, RESOGEST, etc) attended the meeting. Islamic Organization for Food Security was present at the meeting as well to establish direct contacts with regional organizations in food security domain.
